Kissing Infinity evokes visions of queer utopia beset on all sides by inequity. Recordings of quotidian objects mingle with repurposed musical equipment, modest sine tones, and the intimate squish of the body. "Cleanliness is next to moral panic (The better angel of our nature calls!)" rebukes the phobic zeal directed at trans people who dare to use a public washroom. Pairing the unceremonious cycles of a washer/dryer and the anxious flitting of a toilet—their inherent frequencies bolstered and modulated with sine waves—Mira Martin-Gray offers a longform portrait of the mundane personal care that hateful groups leverage as a way to eliminate trans and queer people from public life. This at once ambient and intensely rhythmic exploration is followed by "Rollplay," a deep field of drone created using only drum machines. The purring din gives way to squeaky bravura proceeding from Martin-Gray's lips on the title track "Kissing Infinity." Zaps, hums and chirps of manipulated feedback, shortwave radio static blowing like solar wind, all exchanging electrons with flesh and with creation at large, making it impossible to pinpoint where the electronics end and the body begins. We face the bare radiation of static once more before meeting warm organ tones laced with glossy threads of treble on "The flush of the known universe (Engirth me, my sweet engirthable you)." A quavering blend of plastic reeds and feedback paints a horizon lit with the glow of possible futures.
