heads up, this music has a wide dynamic range

the first piece is based on a text score I wrote called Just Intonation. I have little interest in mathematical scales and that kind of thing - I was thinking about the multiple resonances of the word just: what would a more "just" "intonation" sound like? how can we think about justice in a musical context, in our communities and our performances? this performance was partially an excuse to show off an approach to multiphonic singing that I've somehow developed. I've chosen to use the text of the score as lyrics and improvise fairly freely, but it can also be played instrumentally.

the second track is improvised on two no-input mixing boards wired in series.

this concert and the whole festival were extremely beautiful and I'm so grateful that it happened before measures were put in place to put things like this on hold. many thanks to Kayla Milmine and Bea Labikova for organizing such a wonderful and inspiring event that we won't soon forget. thanks to all the other performers. thanks to Ted Phillips for the great recording.
